The miniaturization of the living environment, of the known, of the home, is a constant theme in his work. With his miniature constructions unfolding around existing forms, Laurent Pagano transforms the gallery into an immersive, contemplative space.
Offering a continual toggle between micro and macro, the works act as objects of contemplation where nature, architecture and domestic furnishings overlap. Whether furniture, houses, walkways or staircases, they literally seem to multiply and parasitize their host object.
The house suggests a mise en abîme, where the object observed contains within itself a multitude of other inaccessible objects. The sculptures stir up this deeply human urge to look inside things; the gaze shifting and searching through the openings for something to discover.
