Artistic approach // Vanessa Sylvain focuses her art on the treatment of matter. Necessary to her creative impetus, this aspect forms the foundation of her work, which focuses on the visual representation of line, form, movement and composition.
Using an abstract approach, the artist highlights her gesturality as a creative process and an extension of her emotional feelings, as she sees it as a transmission of positive, living energies. Among other things, Vanessa is inspired by the feeling of freedom to express her gestures through light and color. Her art is a reflection of her state of mind.
Throughout her work, there is a constant exchange between the artist and the material. She deliberately creates contrasting effects, animating a blend of opacity and transparency, with the aim of illustrating a dynamism, a state of equilibrium and a rhythm of pictorial construction. Fluid acrylic paint enables her to play with these notes of light and shadow. Thus, to give the work a vibrant or peaceful surface, Vanessa creates a superimposition of colored masses (sustained or muted), sometimes monochrome, and an interweaving of curves. She blends gesturality and technicality so that, at the end of the creative process, the work bears witness to a plastic language imbued with complexity and mastery.
